We have less than 100 days left in 2014.  Holy Guacamole.  If you weren’t already thinking about your goals and whether or not you have done what you said you would do, you probably are now.

It’s the fall slinging fest where everyone is smacking around the big goal hype of whether or not you made money, got clients or reached the goals you set.

So, if you have… congratuflippinlations!  You definitely should get a superstar hotshot sticker, because there is many of us… including Muuaahhh, that haven’t quite reached them.  And, if you’re that superstar hotshot, skip this post and YAY for You!

If you haven’t reached the goals you set for yourself and your business, there is a reason.

Maybe the goals you set, weren’t the right goals.  Maybe stuff has changed and they aren’t in alignment with you or maybe the ones you did set… just need a little tweaking.

Whatever the reason, here are a few tips I use to set goals that I will actually take action on, rather than just talk about.

Number One… I  Make Them Heart-Pounding Awesome

If your goal doesn’t make your heart skip a beat because you are so dang excited, it’s not the right goal.  Here is the thing… as you start taking steps towards achieving your goal(s), without a shadow of a doubt you’re going to hit speed bumps. If your goal isn’t heart pounding awesome, that speed bump, no matter if it is big or small, has the ability to stop you dead in your tracks.  Without the extra awesome sauce in your goal, you will not have enough motivation to push through the bumps, which results in an unachieved goal.  boo.

To ensure you will push through those inevitable speed bumps, create goals that make you feel motivated and excited. Your heart should pound with a bit of anticipation. And if the goal frightens you just a little bit, that’s a good sign. It means you’ll be challenged. Challenging goals are more fun to attain than those that seem easy or dull.

Number Two…  I Get Crazy Detailed.  All The Way Down To The Nitty-Gritty.

I have set plenty of vague goals in my lifetime, but the problem is, vague goals are crazy difficult to achieve.  They give us no “real” direction to step towards.  Plus, it gives us no “real” way to evaluate whether we reached them or not.

The more specific you can be when creating goals, the better.  Getting down to the nitty-gritty of each goal does two things… it maps out exactly what you want and allows the universe to do everything in it’s power to help you get there. It also allows you to make sure it is heart pounding awesome!  Sometimes, when you get super clear on a goal, you find out, that you don’t really want it or it doesn’t feel in alignment with you.

Here is what I mean, lets say you want to launch a business this year.  Fabulous.  When will you launch your business, what needs to be completed in order to launch, will you need help, how will you make money, how many hours will you work and the list goes on.  Get crazy detailed with your goals and your plans and it will be super easy to achieve them.

Number Three… I Grab My Crystal Ball

You know what they say… hind sight is 20/20.  OY VEY!  The key is to use this to your advantage.  Take a second and revisit your past successes and failures to help you look to the future.  Dig deep to uncover why some goals were easier to attain than others and make adjustments to your future goals based on what you discover.

Number Four… I Get Aligned To My Sweet Spot

Now that you’re ready to look into the future and step forward, it’s time to make sure your goals are aligned with how you want to feel!  I love me some Danielle LaPorte… she is sweet music to my soul.  She says, your goals need to align with how you most want to feel and I couldn’t agree more with her.  I have been asking clients for years when coaching them, how do they want to feel.  Answer this and you my dear are on your way to smashing goals like nobody’s business.

Number Five… I Shift Up My Mindset

Once I am ready to move forward and start putting one foot in front of the other, I spend time EVERYDAY envisioning myself as if I have already achieved the goal.  I focus deeply on how I “FEEL.”  Oh lightning bolt, if this doesn’t move you leaps forward, I don’t know what will.  I also envision what it looks like and how my life and biz is now that I have achieved it.  It’s super fun and delicious and I promise you always feel awesome after doing it… at least I do.  It is fuel to my fire baby.

Goal setting sometimes has a bad wrap and there are a million and one ways to go about it, but this is what I do and it works.  Give it a shot and see what you think.  Keep your goals aligned with the vision of your dreams and you will be living your dream.

Now… I dare you to set some goals you can smash before the end of the year and share them below!!!
