While self-motivation is a simple concept, it’s not always easy to do.  Despite our best intentions, we can easily find ourselves not following through.  If you are wanting to make some headway on some goals, here are a few tips.

Know What You Are Doing

A to-do list can be a nice thing to have, but it doesn’t really motivate you to do it.  Before making your to-do list, identify what your goals or how you want to feel and create your to-do list around that!  Giving yourself a goal or vision to work towards provides a great motivation to getting things done.

Stay Positive

What you think is what you get.  The reality is a positive attitude can do wonders.  One of my favorite things to do and is in all my planners is a spot to list out your accomplishments.  It’s amazing what happens when you focus on all you have accomplished, rather than what you haven’t.  It’s also a good idea to take note who you surround yourself with.  Positive ignites more positive.

Set Mini-Goals

Attaining a goal can seem like a huge mountain to climb.  If one of your goals is big, break it down into little goals. Big goals are the perfect breeding group for feeling overwhelmed.  By setting mini-goals it makes it easier to take action and builds momentum as you accomplish each mini-goal.

Reward Yourself

Who doesn’t love a reward!  Find something that you would love to reward yourself and I bet you will be motivated to take action.  It doesn’t have to be anything big or extravagant and can be as simple as a treat at the local coffee shop or catching the newest movie.

Have a Backup

While we all have the best of intentions, we sometimes need an extra push to make it happen.  A have always loved having a check-in buddy.  It is someone who can make sure you are following through on what you said you were going to do.  It can be fun to do a contest to if you are both working towards something.
